During Summer 2021 we delivered four sessions in partnership with North Pennines AONB FellFoot Forward Scheme, they were keen to get into the smaller villages in the scheme area. After a long time of not being able have community gatherings, we decided to get out there and celebrate nature and the wonderful green spaces often found in our communities.
We visited four locations; Hayton, Hallbank Gate, Cumwhitton, Castle Carrock. The morning sessions offered two hours of targetted outdoor play to children referred to us as part of the HAF Scheme (Holiday activity and food government programme) in partnership with Brampton Community Action.
The afternoon sessions were free family drop-in events, and everyone was welcome try out our portable mud kitchen, get to grips with hand tools to make medals, create some nature art using natural pigments and have a go making popcorn on the fire.
A total of 140 people attended these events in all, with most families attending from this small rural community. We had loads of fun meeting new faces as always and loved working alongside the Fell Foot Forward team, here’s to more in 2022!
