We are super excited to play out on the Pategill Estate again this year, we’ll be there every Tuesday from March 7th through until the Summer holidays, funded by Penrith Town Council and Eden District Council.
Thanks to the National Lottery Community Fund in 2022, we worked with 40 children and young people who were “playing out” after school. 90% of those that we met attended 3 sessions or more over the 25 sessions from May right up until December.
We had loads of fun and did lots of hanging out, getting to know each other. The sessions are needs led; we played games including torchlight tag in that dark winter sessions, swung on the swings and goal posts, shared some healthy snacks, used natural materials to make paints, games, art, potions, birdfeeders, we did a weekly litter pick at the start of the session, and just enjoyed being there together, feeling safe and playful. The winter sessions were challenging, but using hot drinks, hot water bottles, headtorches and big work lights, we enjoyed some dark night play adventures.
The weekly sessions are aimed at those children and young people who play out on the estate and continue in the same vain as last year, needs based using lots of invitations to play, but this year we also have three Artists coming to deliver one-off sessions alongside ours, bringing music, big nature art and experiments in nature dyes.
We didn’t want the adults to miss out so during the May half term on Tuesday 30th we’ll hold big community event, for anyone on the estate to attend, with all of the Artists and Stomping Ground practitioners, a chance to check in with the whole community to show parents, grandparents and next door neighbours the fun we’ve been getting up to, how important that outdoor space is and how we getting along together.
So… Let’s Play Out Pategill again! WE CAN’T WAIT.
March 7th @ 4pm at the play area!
